Which professions work the most unpaid overtime?

Overtime may be an unavoidable part of many employees’ lives, with staff working to complete projects and meet tight deadlines.

According to the TUC, employees are completing £33.6billion worth of unpaid work each year. The Mirror reports that over 5.3million employees work an extra 7.7hours each week, for no pay. This figure amounts to around £6,301 over the year.

Because of this, the TUC is calling for all employees to take a proper lunch break and leave work on time.

TUC General Secretary, Frances O’Grady, said of the findings: “Few of us don’t mind putting in some extra time when it’s needed. But if it happens all the time and gets taken for granted, that’s a problem. So, make a stand today, take your full lunch break and go home on time.
