Bubble tea company face unpaid trial work claims

Bubble Tea company, Mooboo, have been accused of using unpaid labour by forcing prospective employees to work up to 40 hours for free – Buzzfeed reports.

Better than Zero, a Scotland-based retail and hospitality union, claim Mooboo stores have an unusually high turnover of staff who have worked a trial shift but did not secure employment afterwards.

The Taiwanese tea-based drink company, who have 12 stores across England and Scotland, are also facing claims that they deleted critical social media comments which queried their employment practises.

SNP MP Stewart McDonald said the company temporarily blocked him on Twitter, after he asked the drinks-retailer to clarify their position on unpaid training and trial-shift employment.
