Failing organisations are difficult to turn around. They require expert people management to overhaul poor structures, inspire staff and kick-start a positive team-centred ethos.
However, a Birmingham based hospital, reacting laudably to past criticism, has become the first in the country to receive a rating of ‘outstanding’ from healthcare inspectors – The BBC reports.
A 2009 report of Birmingham Children’s Hospital found it had delays in treatment as well as substandard care and a poor partnership with another local hospital.
Now, staff across the hospital are noted for the excellent support they are providing for hospital users – with especial praise given to the emotional support provided for bereaved parents.
