Forget names, CV’s and cover letters – candidates are being asked to ‘find the job application’ themselves if they want to land a role at Edelman.
Rejecting all applicants to their graduate scheme, the public relations company has instead decided to put jobseekers through their paces with a series of cryptic challenges.
According to the company, their enigmatic three-part multimedia job hunt was created to encourage candidates from all walks of life to apply. No particular requirements or qualifications are needed for their entry-level scheme – Edelman are looking for their ability to crack three codes, which will reveal the job application.
Ed Williams, CEO, Edelman UK & Ireland, explains the new venture: “Most recruitment schemes involve people with clipboards and ‘competency frameworks’. We wanted to do something different that was a challenge and didn’t involve writing an A-level essay. Instead, it was about using your digital wits and ingenuity to try to figure out how to apply, and we didn’t make it easy. We recognised that a CV is just a piece of paper at the end of the day. We needed to lift people’s personalities off the page. Our scheme tries to demonstrate who we are as a business, our culture, and the type of people we’re looking for.”
