Yesterday marked National Sickie Day, with an estimated 375,000 British workers expected to call in sick on the first Monday of February.
Perhaps it’s the winter blues, with the January slog leaving employees feeling a little frazzled and in need for a rest - or they’ve used the end of the month earnings to let their hair down, waking up feeling worse for wear.
Such was the case for Mark McLelland, who woke up with a headache so terrible it led him to believe it was Monday, when it was actually Sunday.
Whilst Monday is typically the most sickie prone day, associated with feeling miserable – McLelland’s boss was indeed surprised to wake up to a ‘sickie request’ from his employee on Sunday morning.
