MP Harriet Harman backs calls for female Dr Who

Workplace gender discrimination has received recent media scrutiny: Piers Morgan and Ewan McGregor became embroiled in a public spat; Zambia was revealed to allow days off for period pain; and sexist dresscodes were, quite publically, dressed down.

Now pressure for better gender parity are focusing in on Doctor Who, with Harriet Harman backing calls for the next iteration of the timelord to be female.

With Peter Capaldi revealing he will be stepping down from the role, numerous fans claim that time lords are able to change gender as they regenerate.

Doctor Who’s regeneration is a key facet of the long running science fiction TV series, allowing the producers to change the lead actor for new series. Peter Capaldi is widely considered to be the twelfth regeneration.
