Staff and relatives of Crown Workforce Management Systems are swapping petals for pounds in a bid to swell coffers for its charity of the year.

The company, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, has a 70-strong workforce. And every year, the birthday of the spouse or partner of every employee, is recognised with the delivery of a bouquet sent by CEO Mike Hawkesford.

However, this year, Crown employees identified one charity to put all its fundraising efforts behind - Macmillan Cancer Support - and the company has offered to donate a cash equivalent in lieu of bouquets if the recipient prefers.

Over the past couple of months, 11 members of staff or their partners have decided the “say it without flowers” and have cash donated on their behalf – raising more than £300.

This has been added to donations from other fundraising activity including a cake bake and Ascot sweepstake, totalling almost £1,000

Sue Brandon, Crown’s marketing and events co-ordinator, said that Crown has been working with Macmillan’s regional fundraising team to plan activity throughout the year.

“We have something planned every month including a summer BBQ, a Wimbledon sweepstake, car boot sale, a ‘cake-off’, half marathon, a food festival and donations in lieu of Christmas cards,” she said.

Crown is also keen to involve clients in the fun and has promised “something special” for its Insights customer conference in September.
