With less than 12 months remaining until the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force, it is essential that organisations that handle personal data understand what the new legislation requires of them and that they adapt their strategy accordingly.
Following a successful series of lunchtime briefings delivered by data protection specialists and corporate law firm Shulmans LLP and Workforce Management experts Crown. Shulmans have produced a downloadable handy guide to GDPR, outlining the key implications and changes organisations should be aware of together with practical strategies to ensure GDPR compliance.
David Bacon, Crown Workforce Management Sales Director cautions: “Organisations simply cannot afford to bury their heads in the sand. The GDPR deadline is looming, bringing with it numerous challenges, so now is the time to start developing strategies that will ensure your business adheres to regulation, minimises risk and safeguards its brand reputation.
“It’s such an important issue that we wanted to make this freely available to any organisation, not just those that attended our recent lunchtime briefings. Cultural change is called for, but better practice – greater ac-countability and transparency about how data is stored - will bring about wider business benefits such as stronger relationships with customers.”
The guide gives a context to GDPR, details who it applies to and outlines the most significant changes from existing data protection laws: data protection officer appointment; breach notification; data protection by design/by default; changes to the use of consent and changes in sanctions.
