Volvo Cars named as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies in 2017

At Volvo Car, we believe that ethics and sustainability form the core of what it means to be a human-centric company.

So we’re particularly proud to have been recognised as a World’s Most Ethical Company® for our work in promoting transparency, integrity, ethics and compliance throughout our business. The World’s Most Ethical Company® programme, run by the Ethisphere® Institute, recognised 124 companies in 2017, covering five continents, 19 countries and 52 industries. Volvo Cars was one of only four in the automotive sector.

“Responsible business is a fundamental part of Volvo Cars’ heritage, and engrained in our corporate culture. An ethical approach is not just the right thing to do, but it brings financial value too.”

Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO, Volvo Cars

The Ethisphere® Institute is a US-based organisation that defines and measures corporate ethical standards, recognises companies that excel, and promotes best practices in corporate ethics.

The World’s Most Ethical Company® assessment is based on the Institute’s Ethics Quotient® (EQ) framework, which measures performance in five key categories: ethics and compliance, corporate citizenship and responsibility, culture of ethics, governance and leadership, innovation and reputation.

Volvo Cars has introduced a range of programmes aimed at reducing our environmental impact, promoting a diverse and inclusive working culture and contributing towards a better society by supporting ethical leadership. Through these programmes, we are addressing ethical issues throughout our global value chain, such as corruption, human rights, competition law, export control and data privacy.

The name we use for our overarching ethics and sustainability programme is “omtanke”, a Swedish word that means “caring” and “consideration”, but also, importantly, “to think again”.

“Volvo Cars embraces policies of diversity and inclusion, is committed to ethical leadership and demonstrates the values of a true global citizen.”

Timothy Erblich, Chief Executive Officer, Ethisphere® Institute
