For business drivers, the company car is part office, part productivity solution, part sanctuary, part mobile device – a flexible, adaptable, sophisticated piece of kit that's essential to their daily life at work and on the weekend.
But the car itself is really only a part of the story – albeit a big part. Increasingly, it's the services delivered by manufacturers, dealers and associated providers that can elevate the ownership experience beyond the everyday.
Volvo On Call is our delivery platform for those services to drivers around the world, enhancing driver safety, vehicle security and business visibility, and providing a growing suite of services to drivers and managers, all in a single solution.
“... enhancing driver safety, vehicle security and business visibility”
The subscription-based service is available as standard on the XC90 and as a factory-fitted option on all other new models. Fleet subscriptions are available, covering up to 10 Volvo cars. Volvo On Call provides 24/7 emergency assistance and support, remote vehicle tracking, and tools to help monitor and manage mileage, fuel consumption and usage.
Early warming system
For a more comfortable start to your journey, you can use the Volvo On Call mobile app to start your car’s engine remotely and let the climate control system run for up to 15 minutes according to the last settings made in the car. Perfect for frosty mornings in winter and hot summer afternoons when the car's been parked in the sun.
Roadside assistance
If a driver runs out of fuel or gets a puncture, flat battery or mechanical failure, they can get in touch with the Volvo On Call service centre directly by pressing the "On Call" button above the rear view mirror.
The service centre is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round. The Volvo On Call operator can use online diagnostics and GPS mapping to assess the vehicle's status and position, and organise any assistance that the driver might need.
Emergency assistance
In an emergency situation, the Volvo On Call service centre can ensure that police, ambulance or fire services are contacted immediately and sent to the vehicle's location. Pressing the SOS button will put the driver directly in touch with the operator, who will contact the emergency services and remain on the line until help has arrived.
In the event that the driver is incapacitated, Volvo On Call will sense if an airbag has been deployed or seatbelt tensioner has been activated during a collision, in which case an alarm is sent automatically to an operator at the Volvo On Call service centre, who will make sure the right help is sent out.
Security
Volvo On Call can detect if someone tries to break into the car, and sends an alert to the service centre. The operator will try to contact the registered driver to check who's inside the car before alerting the police if need be. If the car has indeed been stolen, it can be tracked by satellite. The Volvo On Call mobile app will also send a notification to your phone if you've left your doors unlocked or windows open, reducing the risk of theft.
The Volvo On Call App
The Volvo On Call app is available for iOS, Android and Windows 10 devices, and is compatible with a range of wearable devices. Drivers can use the app to remotely access various functions in the car, such as locking and unlocking the doors, pre-heating or cooling the cabin and checking fuel and service requirements. You can also use the app to find the car in a car park, sending an instruction to sound the horn or flash the lights to guide you to it. If you have a meeting appointment in your diary, you can send the location to your car's navigation system so you're all set to go as soon as you do up your seatbelt. Driving journal functionality helps you keep track of mileage and usage, logging start/end positions, distance, duration, and fuel consumption, and download the detailed data to an Excel spreadsheet for expense and reporting purposes.
