The benefits of diverse and inclusive assessment practices for organisational success are clear - the research and articles with ‘inclusive assessment’ tips are plentiful - and yet here we are in 2017 with 91% of employers still identifying diversity as a key organisational priority1. So, what needs to change?
One of the more contentious components of the recruitment process is the online ‘sifting’ stage due to widespread use of cognitive ability tests. When used appropriately, these tools powerfully predict future job performance, but whilst their use is intended to level the playing field for candidates, they can also have an unintended adverse impact2 on the performance of candidates from minority groups.
