Going to work over the summer months can be laborious – and every employer knows it. That’s why Nicola Eastwood, Group Learning & Development Manager at the Cordant Group, has spoken out about the crucial role employers have in ensuring sure their employees don’t suffer from the summer blues.
“The start of the summer indicates the beginning of the holiday season,” she says. “It is a chance for staff to take a much-needed break, enjoy some sun and most importantly, rejuvenate. As much as we enjoy our holidays, it is always tinged by the knowledge that when it is over we have to go back to work.”
Robert Half recently conducted research on how productivity can be affected during the summer months. They found that the productivity drop-off is more pronounced in larger businesses, with a quarter of organisations with over 500 employees claiming that employees become ‘somewhat’ or ‘much less’ productive in the summer months.
