Apprentices revealed as secret weapon to help UK business tackle staff turnover

 

New research has revealed that apprentices could hold the key to tackling a £2.7million industry problem.

BBC Apprentice finalist Saira Khan, speaking at an event for career advancing apprenticeship schemes at Brown’s, in Covent Garden, said: “As a business woman I believe it is essential that we offer young people the opportunity to get excited about business. Mitchells & Butlers is creating a secure pathway for its apprentices to explore business, build confidence and gain skills that set them up for life.”

In the hospitality industry alone, 1,000 people leave their job every day, costing businesses around £20,000 per departed employee. A study from Mitchells and Butlers, the company behind brands such as All Bar One and Toby Carvery, has determined that their 8,000 apprentices achieve an 80% retention rate, considerably higher than the hospitality figure of 50%.
