Barclays has introduced transitional measures for employees unable to meet its stricter return-to-office requirements, after thousands of workers backed a union-led campaign against the plans.
The bank announced during the summer that its 45,000 UK employees would be expected to attend the office for at least three days a week from October 5th, up from the current minimum of two. More senior employees are expected to attend for at least four days each week.
However, The Financial Times (FT) reports that some employees will now be permitted to delay moving to the new arrangement until 2027. Workers seeking an extension must receive approval from their line manager by the end of this week.
The concession follows an open letter organised by Unite, which called for financial support towards employees’ additional travel costs and exemptions for those living more than 40 minutes from their workplace.
