Almost half (48%) of UK employers have increased efforts to develop talent internally over the past year, as skills shortages and recruitment challenges encourage organisations to rethink how they build their workforces.
The CIPD’s latest Resourcing and talent planning report, supported by Omni RMS, found that upskilling existing employees has become a greater priority amid a cooling labour market, persistent skills gaps and concerns about the cost of new employment rights.
The research, based on a survey of just over 1,000 UK employers with responsibility for HR decision-making, found that 44% have experienced greater difficulty retaining talent.
Among employers that have introduced measures to improve retention, increasing learning and development opportunities was one of the most common approaches, cited by 45%.
