Channel 4’s reported plans to cut up to 325 jobs have prompted legal experts to warn employers against rushing redundancy decisions or treating employee consultation as a tick-box exercise.
The broadcaster is reportedly preparing to cut around a quarter of its workforce as its new chief executive reviews the broadcaster’s strategy, structure and operating costs.
Around 300 to 325 roles could be affected, although Channel 4 has yet to confirm the final number. If implemented, the plans would represent the largest round of redundancies in the broadcaster’s 43-year history.
Chief executive Priya Dogra, who succeeded Alex Mahon in March, is expected to address employees as part of a wide-ranging review of the organisation.
