'KickStarter' | Sainsbury's launches work experience programme creating 10,000 opportunities

Starting from October, Sainsbury’s has said it will create around 10,000 work experience and skills opportunities over the next year through KickStarter, a new programme designed to offer young people access to employer networks, work experience, and career opportunities. 

It will focus on communities with a high proportion of schools offering free school meals, and young people not in employment, education, or training. 

The announcement follows proposed change to the education system, with the launch of new technical educational routes. 

In a statement, Prime Minister Andy Burnham noted: “Last month we announced a shake-up of the education system, with the launch of new prestigious technical educational routes. Now we’re bringing employers, schools, and colleges together to close the gap between the classroom and the workplace.
