'A step backwards' | Freefalling graduate vacancies underwritten by stagnant labour market

Global job search engine and aggregator Adzuna has released data which appears to show a 45% year-on-year collapse in graduate job vacancies. 

Doug Monro, Co-Founder & CEO at Adzuna, stated in a post on LinkedIn: “This month's picture is stark. Graduate vacancies down 45% in a year, to just 8,383 in July, the lowest since we began tracking.

“There were over 55,000 in 2017. For years the UK has expanded uni [sic] places faster than the economy has created graduate roles.”

Looking beyond graduate roles: vacancies fell for the first time in five months to 791,490 in July, widening the annual decline to -9.60%; salary growth cooled again, as average advertised salary fell 0.73% to £43,675; and jobseekers per vacancy rose to 2.14 in July, up from 1.93 a year ago.
