'Doesn't seem right' | Andy Burnham urges employers to rethink virtual interviews & AI screening

Andy Burnham has called on employers to reconsider their use of virtual job interviews amid concerns that young candidates may struggle to demonstrate their personality and potential through a screen.

Speaking to former political adviser Jimmy McLoughlin on the Jimmy’s Jobs of the Future podcast, the Prime Minister argued that recruitment practices adopted following the pandemic were not necessarily making hiring fairer.

“One thing I really don’t like is this culture now of interviewing via Zoom or Teams,” Burnham said.

“That just doesn’t seem right to me. I know it’s convenient for the organisations that do it, but how does a young person shine in that situation?”
