The former chief executive of Lloyd’s of London fell “significantly below” the standards expected of senior leaders by failing to disclose a close relationship with a colleague, an investigation has concluded.
The Council of Lloyd’s found the relationship between John Neal and former Corporate Affairs Director Rebekah Clement was sufficiently close to create a perceived conflict of interest.
Neither disclosed the relationship, despite the insurance market’s global compliance policy requiring employees to declare actual or perceived conflicts.
However, the investigation found no conclusive evidence that Neal and Clement were engaged in a romantic relationship during their employment at Lloyd’s. It also found no evidence of process failures surrounding Clement’s promotion.
