There is a significant disconnect between the responsibilities that HR expects managers to take on and employees' actual experiences, according to new research.
The findings from Reward Gateway | Edenred’s Bridging the ROI Gap report suggest that many employees are not receiving sufficient support with basic people management responsibilities, including setting goals, monitoring workload and reviewing career progression.
When it comes to performance and progression, 43% of HR professionals said they expect managers to take ownership of performance management and reviews. However, 34% of employees said their manager does not regularly review their progression, while 38% said their manager does not regularly set goals and targets for them.
Managers falling short on employee support
The research also highlights shortcomings in the support managers provide during both personal and professional challenges. While 39% of HR professionals expect managers to support employees through personal struggles and 29% expect them to signpost wellbeing resources, 40% of employees said their manager does not regularly check in on their wellbeing.
