'Profound impact' | Pregnancy loss is driving women out of work - here's how HR can respond

Around one in ten working women who experience pregnancy loss or baby loss leave their job because of inadequate support from their employer, new research has found.

A survey for Tommy’s, the pregnancy and baby charity, found striking inconsistencies in the way organisations treat staff following a miscarriage or stillbirth or the death of a newborn baby.

Respondents who returned to their role after having a baby also reported very different workplace experiences, with fewer than half (46%) saying they felt well supported.

Tommy’s report, Bumped Out: why pregnancy and parenting in the workplace must be a priority, says clear policies and processes are too often lacking, even when individual managers show understanding and compassion.
