L&D | Time pressure remains the biggest barrier to workplace learning

Learning and development L&D is widely recognised as a driver of business performance, but a lack of time and leadership support is preventing many organisations from making the most of it, according to new research.

Commissioned by MHR, the findings suggest employers strongly believe in the value of workplace learning, but face clear challenges in delivering it effectively, as businesses attempt to balance compliance priorities, leadership development and the growing use of AI.

Lack of time biggest barrier to effective learning

The research found that time remains the biggest obstacle to successful L&D programmes. Almost half (49%) of HR leaders said employees are not formally allocated time during the working day for learning and development.

At the same time, 70% said limited employee capacity was the biggest barrier to delivering effective learning programmes, pointing to the competing pressures workers face during already busy schedules.
