Scott Mills has been sacked by the BBC following allegations about his personal conduct, in a move employment lawyers say signals a potentially sharper approach to workplace investigations at the broadcaster.
The star DJ, who has hosted the Radio 2 breakfast show since January 2025, was last on air on March 24. The following morning, colleague Gary Davies told listeners he was “in for Scott Mills”.
By March 30, staff were informed via internal email that Mills had left the organisation with immediate effect. The BBC has not confirmed the reasons behind Mills' sacking, but reports have since emerged that the DJ was questioned by police in 2018 over alleged sexual offences against a teenaged boy between 1997 and 2000. The case was dropped a year later due to a lack of evidence, the Met Police said.
In a message to employees, Lorna Clarke, director of music at the BBC, said the news would come as “a shock”, adding she would share further details about the future of the show “when I’m able to”.
