Reform UK plans to abolish the Employment Rights Act if it forms the next government, opening a new political front in the debate over one of the most significant overhauls of UK employment law in decades.
The party’s business spokesperson, Richard Tice, said a future Reform administration would introduce a “great repeal act” aimed at rolling back major legislation introduced under the current Labour government, including workplace and housing reforms.
Speaking at an event in Birmingham, Tice said: “We will repeal things that are unnecessary or against the strategic national interest,” adding that some measures amounted to “well-intentioned legislation that is having exactly the opposite effect”.
Among those targeted is the Employment Rights Act, which he claimed was “destroying jobs for young people”.
