Spotify’s top software engineers no longer write code in their roles because of artificial intelligence, the company’s co-CEO has revealed.

On its fourth-quarter earnings call last week, Gustav Söderström said that his best developers have “not written a single line of code since December,” as reported by TechCrunch.

The streaming platform has rolled out a mixture of external and internal tools to accelerate its development processes, fundamentally reshaping the role of employees previously responsible for coding.

AI reshaping work ‘tremendously’ at Spotify

Spotify said it rolled out over 50 new changes and features for its streaming app in 2025, including the recently launched ‘Prompted Playlists’ and ‘About this Song’ – both of which are powered by AI.
