Slowly but surely, the narrative surrounding workplace artificial intelligence adoption is changing.

The first two years of the generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) boom – circa early 2023 to 2025 – were defined by early adopter hype and experimentation.

But in recent months, the buzz has slowed, and the conversation has shifted away from eager anticipation and exploration. We are now in what Gartner describes as the “trough of disillusionment” era.

Shedding the analyst jargon, this means that organisations are now gaining a much firmer understanding of AI’s potential and limits.
