Asda has revealed it underpaid tens of thousands of workers after its payroll systems were decimated during a major IT upgrade.
Approximately 53,000 workers in total – 33,000 of which are still employed by the supermarket giant – were underpaid between February 2024 and May 2025, The Telegraph reports.
Asda has vowed to repay workers what they were owed, along with interest payments, whilst any workers who were overpaid will not be asked to pay back the extra cash.
Asda’s Executive Chairman Allan Leighton, said that during investigations into its tech systems, the company had reviewed its systems, it had uncovered errors in how it calculated workers’ holiday and sick pay whilst the company was undergoing ‘Project Future’, a significant backend tech migration.
