‘Better decisions’ | NHS bosses using AI to deploy staff more effectively amid winter flu 'tidal wave'

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is reportedly helping NHS trusts manage staff needs and deliver more effective patient care, as trusts across England battle a winter flu “tidal wave.”

50 NHS organisations are already using a predictive AI tool to forecast demand in A&E departments, a December government statement said.

The tool has allowed NHS trusts to plan staffing needs across A&E departments more effectively, assisting with smarter shift scheduling and identifying potential surges in demand for resources before they happen.

Dr Zubir Ahmed, Health Innovation Minister, said the “AI revolution is here.”
