Sacked & barred | 'Patronising' Met Police sergeant accused officer of 'using the pregnancy card'

A Metropolitan Police sergeant has been dismissed after accusing a pregnant officer of “using the pregnancy card” as well as incidents involving other colleagues.

A misconduct panel found that PS Sevket Gurgur’s conduct towards three female colleagues was “intentional, deliberate and targeted”, and amounted to gross misconduct, justifying dismissal and placement on the barred list.

‘Using the pregnancy card again’

The most serious allegations related to PS Gurgur’s treatment of PC A, who was pregnant at the time and working under his supervision in the operations room at Edmonton police station.

The panel found that when PC A returned to work after pregnancy-related sickness absence, PS Gurgur would make comments including: “Oh, now you decide to turn up” and “Using the pregnancy card again”.
