Facilities management provider Bidvest Noonan has introduced domestic violence support measures, including a policy which gives affected colleagues up to five days of paid leave.
The Domestic Violence and Support Framework was announced on November 25, the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.
An estimated 840 million women, nearly one in every three, have been subjected to sexual or physical violence in their lifetime, while a past UN study found that roughly 40% do not seek help of any sort.
The day is a “global reminder of the impact of domestic abuse and the importance of offering understanding and support,” a statement shared with HR Grapevine said. “Domestic abuse can affect anyone, and these figures underline the importance of clear and accessible support in the workplace.”
