Google has begun offering voluntary buyouts to employees in its UK offices, mirroring a similar programme introduced in the US earlier this year.
Sources familiar with the situation told Business Insider that an email went out to UK staff this week inviting them to take a voluntary exit package, which was later confirmed by a Google spokesperson.
Company expands US-style exit programme to the UK
It remains unclear which parts of Google’s UK operations received the offer or how many employees were approached. The company did not respond to further questions on those details, Business Insider reported.
The spokesperson said: “Earlier this year, some of our US teams introduced a voluntary exit programme with severance for U.S.-based Googlers, and we are now also offering the programme in the UK to support our important work ahead.”
