The BBC will cut jobs from the teams behind iPlayer and other online services, as it attempts to keep pace with global competition by overhauling operations.
More than 80 employees are currently at risk of redundancy, a report from Deadline revealed.
Kelly Kowal, Chief Operating Officer for the BBC’s product and engineering group, sent an internal email to staff emphasising that the department “must transform” to secure the “BBC’s future.”
BBC begins ‘major’ overhaul of product group
The BBC’s product group manages the infrastructure and systems that power key online services, including iPlayer, Sounds, Sport, News, and Bitesize apps. It also facilitates BBC content on web and smart TV platforms.
