‘Big Brother’ | Lloyds questioned over use of employees' banking data in pay negotiations

Unions have questioned Lloyds Banking Group after it emerged the lender accessed information from the personal bank accounts of over 30,000 employees during pay negotiations.

The data, which outlined the saving and spending habits of the bank’s lowest-paid members, was compared to the financial behaviour of the wider public.

It was presented to unions during pay talks for 2026 and 2027, prompting concerns over whether employees’ information was being used appropriately.

Lloyds has said any and all information used was aggregated and anonymised, in compliance with data protection regulations.
