Wellbeing | UK could lose 3m+ workers to illness without better workplace health support

More than 3 million adults could be pushed out of work within a decade due to long-term health conditions, new analysis has warned.

The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) published new findings which warn that by 2035, 3.37 million workers could disappear from the workforce without urgent action from Government and employers.

The projection represents an increase of 26% over the next decade and would cost the economy as much as £36 billion a year if the current trajectory continues.

It comes as the Government releases its final Keep Britain Working report, in which it sets out plans to work in partnership with employers to reduce sickness absence, improve return-to-work rates, and increase disability employment rates.
