‘Exploitation’ | Drivers to battle Royal Mail e-Courier for worker classification & access to 'basic' rights

A group of drivers has filed legal action against Royal Mail eCourier, arguing they were misclassified as self-employed independent contractors and therefore denied key workers’ rights.

15 former drivers have brought the claim against e-Courier as members of the Independent Workers’ union of Great Britain (IWBG), through law firm Leigh Day.

Leigh Day has previously represented drivers from the likes of Addison Lee, Bolt, and Uber in similar worker classification claims.

eCourier, a Royal Mail-owned company which operates a medical delivery service for items such as blood and equipment, has responded to the legal claim. It stated that it offers couriers the option to classify themselves as either self-employed contractors or workers.
