Formula One’s governing body has scrapped the role of Head of Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion, and with it, parted ways with the woman leading that work.
Sara Mariani, who held the position for just 18 months, has left the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) following an internal restructure that effectively dismantled her role. Her responsibilities will now be divided between two different departments: sustainability moves to the secretary general for mobility, while diversity and inclusion will fall under the HR function.
Mariani appeared to take aim at the organisation’s leadership in a pointed out-of-office message shared after her departure. “There is a life outside the FIA,” she wrote. “A life where talent and dedication are rewarded. Where women in leadership positions can thrive, feel valued and respected.”

She added: “It is, sadly, time to say goodbye. I loved the ride, I enjoyed every minute of it. I enjoyed the amazing work we did and my incredibly talented team. I did not expect it would end so abruptly but life goes on.”
