The Government has launched a new partnership with leading technology firms aimed at training millions of workers in artificial intelligence, as ministers seek to equip the workforce for what they call the “new economic frontier”.
The initiative, which officially began on Friday 13 June, brings together companies including Amazon, Microsoft, Google, BT, IBM and Sage, as part of a long-term plan to deliver AI training to 7.5 million people, roughly one in five UK workers.
At a roundtable hosted by Technology Secretary Peter Kyle, government and industry representatives began early discussions on identifying future skills needs, improving access to training, and setting a schedule for tracking progress.
“Artificial Intelligence is the new economic frontier, and we want to get Brits ready for jobs of the future so we can spark the growth powering our Plan for Change,” Kyle said.
