Huw Edwards refusing to pay back £200k salary - what can the BBC do?

Disgraced presenter Huw Edwards has refused BBC requests to pay back £200,000 of his salary earned after being arrested, the broadcaster's chairman has revealed.

Last year, the BBC had asked Edwards to return the salary he was paid between being arrested in November 2023 and resigning in April 2024.

Edwards was the BBC's highest paid journalist and top news presenter until he quit, receiving a yearly salary of up to £479,999, according to the broadcaster’s annual report.

He had not been on screen since the summer of 2023, following allegations he had paid a young person for sexually explicit photos. He later pleaded guilty to unrelated criminal charges in July 2024 - of making indecent pictures of children.
