Parliamentary staff are struggling under poor working conditions due to inadequate management by MPs, unions have warned, describing the work environment as "miserable" for many employees.
Concerns over high staff turnover, job insecurity, and inadequate HR structures have been raised in submissions to a cross-party committee chaired by Cabinet Minister Lucy Powell - the Daily Express reported.
The inquiry is examining potential reforms to the way the House of Commons operates, including the employment structure for MPs' staff.
The GMB union, which represents thousands of parliamentary employees, has called for an overhaul of the current system, where MPs directly hire and manage their own aides, researchers, and office staff - an approach more akin to running a small business.
