'Brass neck' | MP's 'UK needs a work ethic' remarks are out of touch with a nation on the brink

MP's 'UK needs a work ethic' remarks are out of touch with a nation on the brink

Conservative Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp believes Britain needs to "up its game" when it comes to work ethic. Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Political Thinking, Philp suggested that the UK is falling behind in the "global race" against economic powerhouses like China and India, blaming a perceived lack of hard work for the country's struggles. His solution? A stronger work ethic and a renewed sense of national industriousness.

"As we compete globally with countries like South Korea, China, India, we need a work ethic, we need everybody to be making a contribution," he said.

"We are in a global race that means we have got be competitive and it means we have got to work hard.

"As a country we need to up our game."
