Sainsbury’s has confirmed plans to cut over 3,000 jobs as it prepares to tackle a “challenging cost environment”.
The supermarket currently employs 148,000 people but has now laid out plans to reduce its headcount by around two percent, through a restructuring plan that will include the closure of all 61 in-store cafés.
Additionally, approximately one in five senior management positions will be made redundant.
The decision is part of Sainsbury’s broader strategy to streamline its management and head office operations, prioritising fewer but larger roles.
