The construction sector averages a significantly higher turnover rate than most industries, where skilled workers are often in short supply and in high demand.
Debbie Waddington, Head of HR at Keepmoat says a people-centric culture has been key to improving retention rates defying the construction industry’s tendency for excessive attrition.
“People want to work for companies that they believe are doing the right thing, and are treating people and the environment in the right way… they're not just in it for profit.”
This approach has included embracing sustainability objectives and fostering a sense of purpose, which Waddington says are “fundamental for attraction and also retention,” cementing (pun intended) the firm as an employer of choice for operational graduates and skilled construction workers alike.
