The UK government is considering banning the use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to suppress allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment at work.
According to The Guardian, following years of campaigning and multiple high-profile cases, ministers are now open to changing the law - as part of its broader employment rights reforms - to prevent NDAs being misused in workplace settlements.
Although the Labour government’s key employment rights bill does not currently address NDAs, Justin Madders, the workers’ rights minister, has suggested that amendments could be introduced in the coming months to tackle the issue.
Earlier this week, a proposed amendment by Lib Dem MP Layla Moran aimed at restricting NDAs was voted down. However, during a parliamentary committee session, Madders indicated that the government intends to "look more closely at what we can do in this area."
