Women may face problems with their career growth if they work from the office less frequently than male colleagues, the chief executive of Nationwide has said.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Debbie Crosbie, CEO of the building society, emphasised the importance of maintaining a "physical presence" in the workplace for career development.
She said that, while it was was crucial for businesses to support the needs of women and working families, firms mustn't "prevent women from taking some of the opportunities by not being in the office."
Nationwide previously operated a fully-remote working policy, which was scrapped in December 2023 in a move affecting 13,000 non-branch employees. It replaced its ‘work from anywhere’ model with hybrid working, including a minimum two days per week in office.
