'Poorly judged' | Ofcom in hot water over 'want to work in porn?' job ad joke

Ofcom has issued an apology after an employee posted a controversial advert for a role monitoring pornographic websites.

The LinkedIn post, which was intended to attract attention to the regulator’s job vacancy, which involves monitoring for illegal content and restricting access to children, opened with the line: “Always wanted to work in porn but don’t have the feet for an OnlyFans? Now is your chance.”

The remark, made by an Ofcom Online Safety Supervision Principal, was met with backlash, for trivialising serious issues related to online pornography and its impact on children and women.

Criticism from campaigners

Baroness Kidron, a prominent crossbench peer and children’s rights campaigner, condemned the post, stating that it treated the role’s engagement with porn companies as a “perk” while disregarding the gravity of the problem.
