Sorry seems to be the hardest word.

Sir Elton had it right when he sung about how difficult it can be to admit when we need to apologise or make amends.

But nearly fifty years after the single was released, the words have taken on a hollow meaning. In recent years we have seen over and over again just how much people struggle to apologise.

Here’s a quick game. Google any UK Prime Minister or US President and the phrase 'refuses to apologise.' How many stories can you count? The inevitably endless stream of examples demonstrates the level of outright stubbornness that has become a part of our culture.
