Premier League referee David Coote's video scandal was 'serious breach' of employment contract

Premier League referee David Coote has been dismissed by the league's refereeing body following an investigation that concluded his actions were in “serious breach” of his employment contract.

Coote was suspended by PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Ltd.) last month after a video surfaced on social media allegedly showing him making abusive comments about Liverpool and their former manager, Jürgen Klopp.

The Sun then later published a video it claimed showed Coote appearing to snort white powder during his tenure as a match official at Euro 2024. UEFA subsequently suspended the 42-year-old and launched its own investigation into the matter.

Following a full investigation, PGMOL determined that his position was no longer tenable.
