The Church of England (CofE) has been warned about overspending on HR and equity, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) measures.
The caution came from think-tank Civitas, which produced a report examining administrative spending in the Church.
Civitas’ report said CofE has hired heavily across fields including HR, LGBT+, and social justice, arguing the overinvestment is leading to difficulties for parishes.
A spokesperson for the Anglican Church has refuted the findings of the report, as it deals with the fallout of former Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby’s recent resignation over his failure to act on a sexual abuse scandal at the CofE.
