A receptionist has won a race discrimination case against a boutique hotel after an employment tribunal found she was subjected to offensive remarks and that her complaints were dismissed or ignored.
Miss Georgia Sylvester, who worked at the Harper Hotel in Norfolk, brought claims of race discrimination, harassment, and victimisation against parent company, Notley Abbey Ltd.
The tribunal heard examples of shocking comments from hotel colleagues including usage of the N word and a claim that Ms Sylvester ‘wasn’t dark enough’ to be offended.
The tribunal upheld her claims and criticised the hotel for its failure to address her concerns adequately.
